Design. Craft. Purpose.
Collective showcases 12 talented designer-makers from the Crafts Council’s Hothouse 2016.
In the hands of these exciting new makers, furniture combines bespoke craftsmanship, traditional woodwork and laser-cut marquetry. Ceramics create inspiring new surfaces, from weathered British seashores, to electric hues and granite textures. Digital embroidery creates urban textile landscapes; knitwear explores Scandinavian heritages. Jewellery is inspired by anatomy, fusing porcelain and silver, and hunter-gatherer traditions; enamel is reworked into richly degraded surfaces. Other objects challenge craft ‘functionality’: bespoke brushes invite users to choose their use.
This is contemporary craft made with passion and pride.
