Excellence in Fibers 2016

In 2016 I entered a competition run by Fiber Art Now Magazine, ‘Excellence in Fibers – a juried exhibition in print’. I was really happy to be selected as the winner in the Wearable Art category for my Nigerian Riot Girl piece, and featured in the double Winter 2016/17 issue of Fiber Art Magazine. I’m also pleased to say that the Nigerian Riot Girl is now on exhibition as part of the Excellence in Fibers exhibition at the New Bedford Art Museum in Massachusetts, USA, until March 19 2017.  There was a great writeup on the show on South Coast Today:

Puzey is a visceral (and fashionable) response to the kidnapping of the Chibok girls by Boko Haram in Nigeria. It is emblazoned with the demand to “Bring Back Our Girls.” It is called “The Nigerian Riot Girl,” and the very title conjures a spiritual connection to both Riot Grrrl, a third-wave feminist movement that originated in Olympia, Washington, and to the feminist Russian punk band Pussy Riot, a thorn in the side of Vladimir Putin….”
