Atelier Wren - Taj Hotel

House of Ming, London

2023

Jacky was commissioned by Atelier Wren to create a series of embroidery and silk panels to sit in the globally acclaimed House of Ming, Chinese restaurant, within the Taj Hotel. Inspired by the culture and history of the Ming Dynasty, she began with textured and detailed drawings inspired by a beautiful Daoist painting from the Ming Dynasty period.

Working to programme her drawings into richly layered stitches and gorgeous delicate laser cut appliqué through her digital embroidery software, creating layers of stitches specific to this artwork. Custom laser cut silk and sequins shimmer among the embroidery, showcasing the layers and textures within the floral patterns.

The 6 panels add to the opulence and warm hues of House of Ming, perfectly paired with the detailed hand painted ceilings by Lara Fiorentino and a large verre eglomisé by Anna Didik. Jacky would like to thank Atelier Wren for commissioning her for their beautiful project; Alison and Clara at Textile Conservation Ltd and photographers John Carey and Becca Lugar.
