Rosewood Villa Magna

Madrid

2021

A tailor-made piece by artist Jacky Puzey draws inspiration from Madrilenian aesthetics and Spanish tailoring from Balenciaga to Oteyza. Introducing an interplay between light and dark, detail and colour, the artwork fuses the sense of opulence, grandeur and drama inherent in Spanish architecture, court painting and fashion.

The embroidered artwork has a colour palette of rich deep blues and muted golds; Jacky was particularly drawn with this work to recreate the pattern and opulence of the old tiled patterns and Moorish palaces. At a scale that became monumental, textured and abstract rather than depicting particular designs; fusing the authenticity of historical settings with a contemporary embellishment.

Very much a signature artwork, this dramatic bespoke embroidery creates a contemporary reimagining of a 19th Century Spanish palace tapestry and the austere glamour of Balenciaga’s Spanish couture. Jacky would like to thank Artlink for this stunning commission.
