Imagine a richly embroidered screen as a room divider. Some of the fabric is semi-sheer, allowing light through gently. Other parts are full of embroidered detail and rich textures, from woollen threads to fur to laser cut silk organza, using both digital and traditional craft production techniques. The Hare embroidered screen is part of my current series of interior screens and wallhangings, inspired by urban wildlife and historical allegorical paintings. Migrating creatures, from escaped parakeets to foxes and hares, are shown within their new urban environments to create a beautiful meditation on ‘wild’ cities and diverse urban cultures in England.
View my new collection at New Designers 2016, London, as part of the One Year On curated area in PART 2, July 6-9th 2016. I will be showing the Hare screen with other pieces from this collection.
